Cleaning and disinfection are key components of routine biosecurity in poultry farming.Decontamination kills any disease-causing organisms like: viruses, bacteria, parasites and mould that might be present on a farm at the end of a production cycle or after a disease outbreak production cycle . decontamination allows for safe re-population of a farm.
STEP ONE
Dry Cleaning :

Use a broom, brush, shovel, rag or compressed air to remove dust, soil and dry organic material.

Dry cleaning should not be used for cleaning poultry houses infected with air-borne diseases such as Avian Influenza or Newcastle as it may cause aerosolization of the virus and increase the risk of spreading the disease.

Removable equipment should be taken outside and soaked in a trough containing a solution of Virukill with 1.8 % concentration .
STEP TWO
Application of Detergent :

After the primary cleaning, floors, ceilings, walls, and fixtures should be thoroughly treated with lerapur SR 115 ( alkaline foam cleaner )

A pre-mixed solution may be made which is then sprayed on at low pressure with the pressure washer( Virukill @0.35 % concentration) .

Ensure that there is total coverage.

Remember to leave the soap to work for the necessary amount of time (as recommended on the label) and be aware that in some cases when soap has never been used on concrete flooring before.
STEP THREE
FLUSH OUT WATER SYSTEM :

Drain the water system if possible, washing away dirty water. Clean out the tank(s) to remove any biofilm deposits & Scales and refill with clean water. Add disinfectant – Lerasept Special at a dilution of 2 % ( 20ml/Litres of water) and allow to stand for 12 hours minutes before Flushing through to drain off points.

Flush abundantly with water.
STEP FOUR
APPLY DISINFECTANT AND ALLOW TO DRY :

For terminal disinfection Lerasept GDDF or Lerasept GDDB Formula should be applied using pressure washer.

The dilution to use Lerasept GDDF is 7ml/litre of water.

Removable equipment should be taken outside and soaked in a trough containing a solution of Virukill with 1.8 % concentration.

Allow to dry.
STEP FIVE
Fumigation :

Fumigation with formaldehyde should be carried out according to the guidelines.

Requires very careful control to ensure the safety of operators and the effectiveness of the process.

Formaldehyde gas is liberated when formalin is volatilized. In the area to be fumigated, potassium permanganate is placed first in an earthen enamel ware and formalin is added next. The normal or IX strength of formaldehyde is obtained by mixing 20 gm potassium permanganate and 40 ml formalin for each 100 cubic feet space to be disinfected. This is called 1 X strength of fumigation.
STEP SIX
Restock and disinfect :

Continuous water disinfection for disease control and prevention can be done with the help of Virukill 17-20ml/100 L of water daily.

Virukill can be used with 1.8% concentration and aerial disinfection to be done in every 10-15 days.

This has no negative impact on production parameters.
STEP SEVEN
Farm daily Routine :

Foot baths filled with VIRUKILL at a 1.8% dilution .

Should be placed at all entrances to the house immediately after disinfection.

Foot baths must be kept clean by changing the disinfectant regularly, otherwise they can be a potential source of bacterial contamination.

Always dip feet before entering poultry houses.
5
If boots are soiled, clean with water and a stiff brush before using foot bath.
STEP EIGHT
TESTING AFTER CLEANING :

It is good management practice to check the effect of the cleaning work in the poultry house so that you can be sure that the method and the product used actually work.
